Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority Announces Launch Of Flight Route From Istanbul To Ras Al Khaimah (28 November 2019)


A new commercial route operated by Pegasus is now running between Ras Al Khaimah and Istanbul

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) welcomed the inaugural flight operated by Pegasus from Instanbul to Ras Al Khaimah on the 28th of November. The flight departed from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) on 27th November at 9:50pm and arrived at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (RKT) at 3:20am on 28th November.

The arrival of the first flight was celebrated with a water cannon salute for the aircraft and a special cake cutting ceremony attended by key figures in the aviation industry, including representatives from RAK Civil Aviation, RAK Airport, RAK TDA and Pegasus. The first cohort of passengers were greeted with a red carpet which was set up from the plane and a Duty-Free bag upon arrival.

H.E. Engr. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, member of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah Executive Council shared, “We are proud to announce the new route between Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport. Ras Al Khaimah is a key player in the local aviation market, and this just one of many developments we have planned for the airport in the coming months and years.”

 Ras Al Khaimah International Airport has seen an increase in the number of inbound tourists to the Emirate from key international markets over the past 18 months. The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah has also witnessed a 5% growth in overall visitor arrivals from January to October this year, with a peak of 117,995 visitors in August 2019.

Raki, Chief Executive Officer of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority commented: “The new route from Istanbul to Ras Al Khaimah is a fantastic achievement for the airport. It opens up our beautiful Emirate to key markets in Turkey and beyond. The new route is just in time for one of our busiest seasons, as the weather cools down, tourists are able to take full advantage of Ras Al Khaimah’s many great outdoor assets, inclusive of the beaches and mountains.”

Sanjay Khanna, Chief Executive Officer of Ras Al Khaimah International Airport added: “The new route from Istanbul to Ras Al Khaimah is a fantastic achievement for our airport and I cannot wait to see the many new travelers who will pass through our airport. We have world-class facilities here at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, allowing tourists to travel with convenience and ease. Our partnership with Pegasus will further connect Ras Al Khaimah with 26 European destinations including the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, the Nordics and Russia via Istanbul”

Ras Al Khaimah International Airport is currently connected to destinations around the world including Prague, Moscow, Luxembourg, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Katowice, Poznan, Brno, Cairo, Calicut, Peshawar, Jeddah, Islamabad and Lahore, highlighting the Emirate’s soaring popularity in markets outside the region. It plays a key role in the Emirate’s plans to draw in 1.5 million visitors by 2021 and 3 million visitors by 2025, supported by partnerships with globally recognised bodies.
