Saqr Port Authority
Saqr Port was built by order of His Highness Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.
Saqr Port is located at Khour Kuwair, Ras Al Khaimah’s modern and fast growing industrial complex. Imports of raw materials to support local industry are efficiently handled and the Port also offers a convenient outlet for manufactured materials for the construction industry.
In 2004, KGL PI signed a 21 years concession agreement with the Ras Al Khaimah government to develop and operate Saqr Port Container Terminal. With a total investment exceeding US$ 50 million, KGL PI is currently modernizing, developing & improving operations at the container terminal with throughput expected to reach 300,000 TEUS per year in its third year of operations.
Mina Saqr advantages detailed are as follows:
- Maintaining its historical maritime connections, the port offers modern facilities to U.A.E.’s import, export and transshipment traffic to India, Pakistan & the Gulf countries.
- An excellent road network makes overland transshipment throughout the Middle East a realistic possibility for shippers and importers
- The port also handles a considerable quantity of raw materials imported to support local industry & construction projects and offers an easy & convenient outlet to U.A.E.’s construction industry for exporting manufactured materials throughout the Middle East.
- Transshipment by sea to Iran is facilitated since Saqr Port is the closest port to Bander Abbas
Building on this significant opportunity to expand its global reach, KGL PI has already commenced planning the second phase of expanding Saqr Port’s capacity to handle 800,000 TEUs by 2012. This will again be followed by a third phase expansion bringing the port capacity to 3,000,000 TEUs by the year 2020.
