RAK Ruler witnesses the signing ceremony for Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, today witnessed the signing of the management agreement between Hilton Worldwide and the Al Hamra Group for the launch of Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah at a function held at the Al Dhait Palace here.



Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah will be the first Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property in the UAE and second hotel under the luxury brand in the Middle East following the 2005 opening of the Qasr Al Sharq in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.



The 349-room, Arabian-themed hotel is scheduled to open in Q4 2011 and promises to be one of the most luxurious and exclusive leisure destinations in the UAE.



The agreement was signed by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of the Al Hamra Group, and Rudi Jagersbacher, President, Middle East and Africa, Hilton Worldwide, in the presence of Sheikh Omar bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Bank and RAK Airways, Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Finance Department, Sheikh Mohammed bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Chairman of RAK Department for Economic Development, Jihad Quzmar, Legal Advisor to H.H. The Ruler and Government of Ras Al Khaimah, and Mohammed Sultan Al Qadi, CEO and Managing Director of RAK Properties.



The hotel, designed as a palace, will be located in the newest and most upscale area of Al Hamra, west of Ras Al Khaimah and approximately 40 minutes away from Dubai International Airport.



It will be part of a mixed-use development that includes an 18-hole championship golf course, a 600-metre private beach and convention centre with capacity for 3000 people. The hotel will provide an ideal location for guests looking for a calm and secluded oasis of relaxation.



Speaking after the signing ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Saud said, "We are happy that a great brand like Waldorf Astoria has chosen Ras Al Khaimah to open their first property in the UAE. RAK Government is committed to enhance the tourism infrastructure of the emirate and the entry of a brand like Waldorf Astoria represents a major milestone in the emirates tourism sector development".



H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi said, "We are proud to welcome one of the most luxurious and prestigious hotel brands to Ras Al Khaimah. Al Hamra is an exciting new development in the Emirate, and we are creating a stunning oasis of luxury and tranquility, where guests can come to relax and unwind. We now have four hotels open or under development with Hilton Worldwide and are proud to be working with them to expand the Waldorf Astoria brand to the UAE".
